Bollywood actresses have to work very hard to make their place in the industry. And the evident gender bias makes it even harder. But there is one more thing that these beauties need in addition to hard work, and that’s ‘luck’. A couple flop movies could mean the end of a career. It has happened to many actresses! So what do these actresses do when their careers fall flat?
Well, here are 3 Bollywood actresses whose careers did not take off, but they made a good life for themselves by marrying rich men instead.
1. Ayesha Takia
This part-Gujju-part-Muslim girl started in the industry as a model when she was just 15-years-old. But what drew Bollywood to her was her appearance in a music video for the song ‘Nahi Nahi Abhi Nahi‘. She debuted in Bollywood with 2004 movie ‘Tarzan: The Wonder Car’. While the movie flopped at the box office, Takia bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut (2005). She also won the Screen Award for Best Actress (Critics) for her movie ‘Dor‘ in 2006, and played the female lead in Salman Khan starrer ‘Wanted’.
Despite these successes, most of Ayesha’s movies flopped and performed poorly at the box office. The actress soon settled down with restauranter beau Abu Farhan Azmi in 2009 who is the son of politician Abu Azmi.
2. Amrita Arora
Amrita Arora’s Bollywood debut was opposite Fardeen Khan in ‘Kitne Door Kitne Paas’ in 2002. The movie performed very bad at the box office and almost all of the Bollywood actresses’ movies flopped with her performances receiving bad to mixed reviews. The only moderate success she saw was for her role in the action-comedy ‘Awara Pagal Deewana‘.
Even though the actress has not formally retired from the entertainment biz, she hasn’t been seen in any movie for quite a while now. In 2009, she got married to her longtime boyfriend Shakeel Ladak and settled down. Ladak is quite the business tycoon in the construction world.
3. Celina Jaitley
You’d think that a former Miss India ought to have made it big in Bollywood. Well, not in the case of Celina Jaitley who won 2001 Miss India title and was the 4th runner-up for the Miss Universe title. She started her career with ‘Janasheen’, a 2003 thriller, and also appeared in movies like ‘Silsiilay’ (2005), ‘No Entry‘ (2005), ‘Tom, Dick, and Harry’ (2006) and ‘Golmaal Returns’ (2008). But none of the movies resulted in critical success for Celina as an actress.
However, given her good looks, Jaitley managed to bag modeling and event appearance projects. During one such event in 2010, she met her future husband Peter Haag in Dubai. Haag is a well-known hotelier based out of Dubai. The two tied the knot in 2011 and have built an amazing life together.
Even though these Bollywood actresses were not successful in the showbiz, they certainly did well in their personal lives. More power to them!
