Wearing Saree For The First Time? These Awesome Hacks Will Make You Look More Sassy

Published on 26 September, 2018 at 5:12 pm By

When you think of wearing a saree finally, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Maybe it’s the hassle of pleat-making, endless tailor trips, choosing the right fabric that suits your body type, matching accessories, and many more things, right? Now it’s time to forget all your woes and look forward to buying sarees. Finding the perfect one, especially for a first-time saree buyer, can be a tedious act. But, if you know the right tips and hacks, you can slay it like a pro!

Don’t believe us? Here is our practical guide for every first-time saree buyer to make them look chic and classy, both at the same time. You can rock the Benarasi saree for example, just like Anushka Sharma did at the Smita Patil awards, 2018:

Featuring a gold border and all-over tikki work, Anushka looked ethereal as if being draped in perfection. Now let’s get to some amazing hacks for a first-time saree buyer:

1. Choose your saree according to your personality!

Did you get any inspiration from Anushka’s Benarasi saree look? Then you already have an idea what style will suit your body and personality. Never forget to choose a saree that doesn’t compliment both.

2. Choose prints according to your height!

If you want to look taller in your small frame, just opt for stripes like this one. Not only do they give the illusion that you’re taller but also look complimentary.

3. Choose the right material always!

What material you can manage is critically important.  Of course, cotton is most suitable for hot Indian summers, but you can also choose silk as an option. For the winters, velvet saree is best.

4. Choose a fabric which is easy to manage!

For typical Indian weather, choose a lightweight saree which doesn’t need frequent dry cleaning. Most common ‘breathable’ fabrics are silk, organza, chanderi cotton, crepe, georgette, and chiffon.

5. Classic saree over trendy or vice versa?

While stripes and floral prints are the usual trends, many can get confused between a heritage heirloom or a trendy design. In that case, just go for the classic one (chiffon is best).

6. Choose the right kind of silk saree!

Tussar, jamdani, banarasi, kalamkari, khanta, kashmiri, kanchipuram, raw silk and paithani — these are some of the traditional silk sarees available. Just like Hema and Esha, look elegant with the right silk touch!

7. Choose the right blouse to make all the difference!

You can always turn the traditional saree fancy with an off-shoulder crop-top, a stylish boat neck or three-quarter sleeves. These quirky tips will make you saree stand out.

8. Choose a fun element to twist your look!

As a first-time saree buyer, don’t hesitate to change the sleeve lengths, add buttons, or use sexy laces. It shouldn’t make you look tacky but you can mix-and-match.

9. Don’t be afraid to experiment!

Brocade and kalamkari blouses can easily pep up a simple look, just like Shilpa Shetty. She looked beautiful and elegant in a black and green brocade saree like this one:

Now that you understand how you can pick the right saree, it’s time to know the right saree draping. Watch Mandira Bedi for the perfect drape:
