10 Upcoming Bollywood Films That Will Release On OTT Platforms Instead Of Theatres

The nationwide lockdown and uncertainty over when will cinemas open has left a lot of filmmakers and production houses facing the dilemma of going direct to digital or waiting for theatres to open after the situation improves. This potentially means that we might get to see many big-ticket releases this year bypass theatres and premiere directly on digital platforms.

While they are exploring the option of heading to streaming platforms, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) has appealed to them to support the cinema exhibition sector by holding their films and releasing them in theatres only. As the industry contemplates this question, let’s check out the list of 10 movies that you might be able to see directly on OTT platforms soon.

1. Gulabo Sitabo

An upcoming Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film, directed by Shoojit Sircar, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles, Gulabo Sitabo will be releasing on Amazon Prime Video in June 2020.

2. Laxmmi Bomb

Laxmmi Bomb is an upcoming comedy-horror film written and directed by Raghava Lawrence in his Hindi directorial debut and a remake of the South film Muni 2: Kanchana. Starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani, it will most likely make a digital release on Disney+ Hotstar.

3. Ludo

An Anurag Basu creation, Ludo is a multi-starrer movie with Abhishek Bachchan, Pankaj Tripathi, Rajkummar Rao, Sanya Malhotra, Aditya Roy Kapur, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Rohit Suresh Saraf. It is said to be releasing on Netflix soon.

4. Jhund

Another movie starring Amitabh Bachchan along with Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru, Jhund is directed by Nagraj Manjule and is based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of NGO Slum Soccer. It should soon screen on Netflix.

5. Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

Starring Janhvi Kapoor, Angad Bedi and Pankaj Tripathi, this biopic of Gunjan Saxena, the first woman combat aviator who entered the war zone of Kargil might see a digital release on Netflix.



6. Shakuntala Devi

A biopic based on the life of famous mathematician Shakuntala Devi who was also nicknamed the “human computer”, this Vidya Balan, Jisshu Sengupta, Sanya Malhotra and Amit Sadh starrer movie will release on Amazon Prime Video.

7. Khaali Peeli

This romantic-action film features Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Panday in main roles, with Jaideep Ahlawat as antagonist and is rumoured to be releasing on Netflix soon.

8. Mimi

A remake of the National Award-winning Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy!, this Laxman Utekar directed and Kriti Sanon, Pankaj Tripathi and Sai Tamhankar starrer film is about a surrogate mother and will be making a digital release on Disney+ Hotstar.

9. Shiddat

Featuring Radhika Madan, Diana Penty, Mohit Raina and Sunny Kaushal and directed by Kunal Deshmukh, Shiddat is also being slated for a digital release.

10. Indoo Ki Jawaani

This coming-of-age comedy film directed by Abir Sengupta features Kiara Advani and Aditya Seal and will be making a digital debut soon.
