Feminism is quite a tricky thing! One can go completely wrong with it even with a minute mistake. This is exactly what happened with a female student who was trying to make a feminist point and chose to strip to undergarments while she was presenting her thesis in front of the whole class. At the Ivy League School, Cornell University, New York, a student named Letitia Chai stripped to her undergarments in order to protest against her professor.
Letitia Chai was wearing a long-sleeve blue shirt and denim shorts when her professor told her that her outfit was “too short” for thesis presentation. The girl perceived this remark as sexist. With an intent of standing up “against oppressive beliefs and discrimination”, 18-year-old Letitia Chai retaliated against her professor by removing her clothes. She even live-streamed the demonstration on Facebook. Click here to watch it.
According to a report by Mirror, Letitia in her Facebook post had written:
The first thing that the professor said to me was “Is that really what you would wear? Your shorts are too short.” The professor proceeded to tell me, in front of my whole class, that I was inviting the male gaze away from the content of my presentation and onto my body.
However, a number of students present in class asserted that Letitia’s statements did not reflect the events that occurred in the classroom accurately. Meanwhile, professor Rebekah Maggor, who was taking the class declared that she does not tell her students what to wear, nor does she define for them what constitutes appropriate dress. Instead, she asks them to reflect on themselves and make decisions on their own.
The post highlighting the incident was also shared by Ben Shapiro, a renowned American political commentator and writer, and his caption saying that what the girl did to fight patriarchy wasn’t the right way of doing it. Check out his tweet below:
Fighting the patriarchy by stripping down to your underwear. Sorry to break it to you, but that’s what the patriarchy wants you to do. https://t.co/a7UyEojwKW

Soon the girl was trolled for her act of stripping in front of the whole class. Check out a few replies to Ben Shapiro’s tweet doing that:
Sometimes these college kids are nothing but a walking/talking contradiction. The females want equality but strip down and display themselves like cattle in a meat market? They want their cake and to eat it too.

Were fellow students supposed to avert their gaze to avoid her claiming sexual harassment during the presentation, or were they made to “tolerate” her “point”?

Next thing you know she’ll be burning her bra. Oh, never mind.

What a clever excuse for a flashing/exhibitionism fetish. There’s no time to explain, quick, look at me in my underwear to stop patriarchy!!

I don’t understand the significance? What is the accomplishment?
