A female party leader of Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, has quit the party alleging harassment.

Ayesha Gulalai resigned from the party on Tuesday alleging that Imran Khan is a characterless man who sends lewd text messages to female members of the party. Her claim comes a few days before the country is scheduled to announce its new Prime Minister after former PM Nawaz Sharif resigned following the Panama Paper leak scandal.

Gulalai commented,

My integrity matters to me the most” and “I cannot compromise when it comes to my honour and dignity. Women workers are not respected in the PTI and a respectable woman worker cannot remain in the party.

However, PTI’s chief, Shireen Mazari, refuted Gulalai’s claims and said that these allegations are baseless and that Imran Khan respects all women workers. She further added that Gulalai was not given a party ticket in the general elections and hence decided to launch a personal attack on Khan.

Gulalai denied all accusations and said that she has not done it for a party ticket. She also leveled charges of corruption at PTI and called Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa CM, Pervez Khattak, a “mafia boss”.

Gulalai was elected into the National Assembly on a reserved seat for women from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and has been an ardent supporter of PTI and Khan. She has now also resigned from her assembly seat and party membership.

The Supreme Court had declared Nawaz Sharif unfit for being a prime minister and hence, he was made to resign. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been elected as the new PM.
