Yup! That is what you read! Female athletes of the Sree Kanteerava stadium in Bengaluru walked into their locker room to find that a notice had been plastered on the walls. This notice, signed by some “sports authority”, asks female athletes to masturbate before practice.

The athletes are understandably shaken up. One senior athlete said,
It is so disturbing and humiliating that somebody could enter the ladies’ restroom and spend time pasting those messages without being noticed.
Another athlete, justifiably worried about spy-cams and such, said,
There were no such messages in the men’s restrooms which means the female athletes are being targeted. This amounts to sexual harassment, and I hope the authorities take it seriously.
The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) promises to enhance security around the stadium. Hmm!
We’ve known for a while that being an athlete in India is a thankless job. Just ask Milkha Singh, or anyone who isn’t a cricketer. Being a female athlete in India is even worse.
You put your life’s blood into it, if you’re really really lucky you earn some fame at an international event and get Christened a “daughter of India”, and not long after, obscene messages are hurled at you because your achievements fade miserably in the face of the fact that you are a woman. There is no baser occupation. What a pity!
