Few days back Rafiya Naaz, a Muslim woman teaching yoga in Ranchi, received death threats from the members of her own community for teaching yoga. But now media reports suggest that her house has been attacked by unidentified assailants.
While she was giving an interview to a television channel, the assailants allegedly pelted stones at the house of Rafia Naaz in the Hatia area on November 10.
Reports said during the interview a large number of people gathered outside her house and this scared her.
A media report had earlier suggested that the girl was warned by the members of her community not to invest any more time in yoga. However, after the matter was brought to the notice of Sanjay Kumar, Principal Secretary to state Chief Minister Raghubar Das, she was provided the security.
Despite the fact that she is willing to continue with her work, the current incident is sure to give chill down her spine.
Naaz has been receiving death threats for the last three years right after the first International Yoga day.
When heard about the stoning incident, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev came out in her support and said the practice was essential for mental and physical health and that religion should not be brought into this.
Rafia resides in Ranchi’s Doranda area, and teaches yoga to supplement the needs of her family. She is also a student of M.Com at a local college. She rose to fame when she shared a photograph of her with yoga guru Ramdev, who was in the city sometime back.
