A fatwa has been issued against Indian music composer A R Rahman and Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi by a Mumbai-based Sunni Muslim group, reports Indian Express.
The fatwa cited that Majid Majidi’s film ‘Muhammad: Messenger of God’ – first of a trilogy on the life of Prophet Mohammad – made a mockery of Islam, and that professional actors, including some non-Muslims, had been cast in key roles.
The fatwa added that Muslims working on the film, especially Majidi and Rahman, have committed sacrilege and will have to read the kalma again and also solemnize their marriages again.
The Raza Academy which issued the fatwa also demanded that Muslims should reject the film.
Last week, the group had written to Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking a ban on Majidi’s film.
