You might have heard of people doing a myriad of things to give life lessons to their children. But have you ever heard about a parent taking his/her child to a grave to tell the innocent being about death?
It is heartbreaking for a parent to think about a child’s death, leave alone preparing themselves for it. But one cannot stop something that is bound to happen.
Realizing the same, Zhang Liyong, a farmer living in a rural area of Sichuan province of China, is preparing his 2-year old daughter, Zhang Xinlei, for what she has to face soon.
The toddler was born with thalassemia, a serious blood disorder that causes deficiency of hemoglobin in the blood and leads to severe tiredness in body and palpitations in heart.
The ailment can cause life-threatening damage to organs if regular blood transfusion and medication aren’t given. The treatment that the disease calls for is quite expensive. But owing to his limited means, Liyong cannot afford even essential treatment for the apple of his eye and is hence preparing her for death.
Liyong has already spent a huge amount of around Rs. 9.5 lakh (equivalent to 1,00,000 Chinese Yuan). Now, after spending all his savings and borrowing huge sums from people, the couple have decided to give up on their toddler’s treatment. Now Liyong has dug a grave for Xinlei and he brings her to the place every day to play there.
Every day, Xinlei lies in the grave with her father Zhang, while her pregnant mother Deng Min sits close by.
