Politics and fashion haven’t quite gone hand in hand, especially in Indian politics. Drabby colors and boring kurtas are said to rule the parliment. But guess, we have been underestimating the impeccable fashion sense of our Indian politicians. It’s not just khadi and black-n-browns. The fashion scene is turning out to be more authentic and diverse than we knew.
Here are 8 politicians to prove that fashion in New Delhi goes beyond fashion runways – all up until the Parliament street.
01. Narendra Modi
Hands down, the trophy for the finest dressed politician goes to Modi ji. While his signature Modi jacket always works the charm, it is also his diverse and experimental style which makes him stand out. His favorites are glasses from Bvlgari, the Movado watch and the pen which is often put on his suits is by Mont Blanc.
“God has gifted me the sense of mixing and matching colours. So I manage everything on my own. Since I’m God gifted I fit well in everything. I have no fashion designer but I’m happy to hear that I dress well,” says Modi who shines out despite an absence of a designer.
2. Shashi Tharoor
London-bred Indian politician Shashi Tharoor not just makes impressive speeches but also dresses up impressively. Nehru jackets and bandh gala are a regular feature in Tharoor’s style, yet he makes even the most traditional attires look suave.
03. Agatha K. Sangma
Agatha has been one of the youngest parlimentarian. Yet, her stay in politics never changed her wardrobe rules. Often seen in her ethnic Meghalaya skirt, Agatha’s style is casual and carefree as she is often spotted in cotton t-shirts and jeans.
04. Vasundhra Raje
In spite of the presence of few female politicians, Vasundhra Raje stands out in her colorful bandhinis and lehriyas. She is not a politician who dresses up to impress the Parliment in morbid colors. She goes all out in her chiffon sarees with floral prints and Rajasthani elemet.
05. Priyanka Gandhi
As opposed to her mother, Priyanka doesn’t shy in experimenting with her style. She easily fits in a cotton saree as she does in a skirt or a trouser. She doesn’t accessorize it heavily but with short hair and a pleasant smile, Priyanka comes off as serious yet approachable.
06. Jyotiraditya Scindia
The royal blood infuses in his style. Jyotiraditya Scindia is known for his impeccable dressing sense, both on and off the political field. His choice of ensemble is not just diverse but spells luxury too.
07. Sachin Pilot
This young, good-looking politician surely caught everyone’s eye with his sweet boyish charm when he entered the parliament at an age of 26. Since then, Pilot’s style has stayed minimalistic but never boring. He’s seen in crisp kurtas as much as suited up.
08. Omar Abdullah
He can wear anything and easily pass off as the face of an international convention. His pepper salted hair easily works with both his classy bandhgala as well as crisp white shirts. Undeniably, Omar is one of the really few stylish and impressive politicians in the country.
