There is no doubt that there is a lot of hidden sporting talent in India. But despite India participating in all major sports like cricket, football, basketball, tennis, hockey, swimming, athletics, etc., cricket has always been India’s unofficial ‘national game’ and continues to be so.
It is also a hard fact that many sports persons in the country languish due to lack of necessary facilities or funding to fulfil their requirements and help them to perform better. Recently, a Facebook user posted a video which showed a bodybuilder Sudheer from Andhra Pradesh posing for camera after winning two medals in an international championship in Ludhiana in Feb 2018. His wife also cheered him up alongside.
Social media users too commented on Sudheer’s achievements:
There is no doubt that cricket has completely taken over all other sports in the country and even if athelets win some gold medals in various sporting competitions, they can’t become popular as cricketers are. Cricketers in India are given way too much money and attention. But the point is our athletes, shooters, bodybuilders, and other sports persons too need the support of public, sponsors and media to raise their level so they can give their best.
