Bollywood had a good run in 2017. Many content-driven movies were released this year. One such film was “Toilet Ek Prem Katha”, starring superstar Akshay Kumar and actress Bhumi Pednekar. This movie has been inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s Clean India Campaign and focuses on the problem of the lack of toilet system in India.
It also discusses taboos and orthodox beliefs associated to this challenge. Bhumi Pednekar played the character of Keshav’s (Akshay Kumar) wife who finds the common practice of defecating in the fields absolutely disgusting. Her pursuit of getting a toilet in her home is what the movie is all about.
This film received appreciation and positive feedback by critics as well as audiences alike. The movie was a blockbuster hit on the box office too. Made in a low budget of around Rs 18 crore, the net profit for toilet Ek Prem Katha grossed to more than Rs 200 crore! It is indeed encouraging for filmmakers and the audiences when movies with good content do good business.
Recently, one of the most influential people in the world, Bill Gates took to Twitter to appreciate “Toilet Ek Prem Katha”.
He posted about how this film rotates around a newly married couple and discusses the challenges of sanitation and cleanliness in India.

He actually shared an article praising this film and seconded the points discussed in it. If Bill Gates could see the film and Tweet about it, why not watch it once again and take the message in the film to a larger level.
