Union power minister Piyush Goyal said that the government will electrify every village in the country before the 2018 deadline.
“During the last 11 months, we have already electrified 6,029 unelectrified villages under our mission of energising 18,452 villages. We will complete the target by March 31, 2017, much ahead of the set deadline of May 2018,” he said.
The union minister asserted that there is no dearth of power and coal in the country.
“No power plant in the country has to temporarily shut down for dearth of coal which shows that there is no shortage. We can now supply any amount of power to any state on demand,” said Goyal.
While addressing the meeting of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Mathura, he batted for increased use of LED. Goyal said:
“It is being made available to common man at Rs.74 against its earlier market price of Rs. 450 since transparency has been maintained in bidding etc. Our target is to ensure LED in every house of the country by 2019 by pressing sale of 77 crore bulbs. It would also save 2.5 crore units of power.”
During his speech on Independence Day last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that 18,452 villages in the country would be electrified in 1,000 days – by May 2018.
