SEX – one word that can make people give you judgmental looks if you use it in public. And if you are a woman then using this word under any circumstance is a complete NO! This is our society and we have come a long way adjusting to it. Times are changing and so are people’s minds. In a country where the population is constantly on the rise, why doesn’t anyone want to openly talk about the natural mating process called sex? People are trying to spread awareness and even filmmakers are trying their best to set movie plots based on the need of the society.
‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ is one movie that is attracting a lot of media glares these days. During the trailer launch of the movie, the cast and crew of the film i.e. Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, Alankrita Shrivastava (director) and Ekta Kapoor (distributor), were taking on questions from the media.
One particular question attracted much attention. Not just Konkona and Ratna, but also Ekta Kapoor decided to answer the question. Sticking with the bold theme of the movie, a journo asked,
Jis tarah se yeh film women’s empowerment ke baare mein baat karta hai, jo aurtein lad rahi hain…kya apko lagta hai ki sex k mudde se hi hum isko improve kar sakte hain ya aur mudde pe bhi film banai jaa sakti hai?
Ekta Kapoor gave a much-needed answer to this question. Hitting the nail perfectly, Ekta Kapoor talked about women’s freedom of speech and how it’s perfectly normal for a woman to openly talk about sex.

So, that is a very big problem, we are not able to discriminate between sexual intentions or sex and sexual crime. Sexual crime is a problem. Sex, if it is consensual between two people, is not a problem.
Ekta Kapoor made a valid point saying that it’s high time people start behaving like adults and become comfortable about topics like sex.
