Ahead of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Daredevils (DD) IPL match on April 29, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officially named four of its stands after Army martyrs.
These stands have been dedicated to Colonel Neelakantan Jayachandran Nair, Havildar Hangpan Dada, Lieutenant Colonel Dhan Singh Thapa and Subedar Joginder Singh.
The four stands were unveiled by CAB president and former cricketer Sourav Ganguly, and Army’s Lieutenant General Praveen Bakshi.
While two of the stands are in dedication to 1962 Indo-China war martyrs Subedar Joginder Singh and Lieutenant Colonel Dhan Singh Thapa, the other two other stands were named after Late Colonel NJ Nair and Late Havaldar Hangpan Dada, who lost their lives for the country in 1993 and 2016 respectively.
Earlier this year CAB had named a stand after cricket administrator Jagmohan Dalmiya, during that time they had announced that they would next name other stands after soldiers as the stadium falls in an Army area.
