A surprising revelation by NASA has come to light. You’ll be shocked to know that lakhs of people have booked their ticket to the planet Mars via Nasa’s InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) mission. According to TOI, the mission is all set to launch on May 5, 2018. It has been stated by NASA that those who have submitted their names will be given online boarding passes for the mission.
According to the report, The total number of names that NASA has received from all over the world is 2,429,807. The names are being etched on a 0.8 cm² silicon wafer microchip using an electron beam to form letters with lines one one-thousandth the diameter of a human hair. Many Indians have responded to call for the mission to Mars and the country has secured the third position in the list of highest number of submissions per nation. The first is the US with 6,76,773 names followed by China with 2,62,752 names.
A lot of space experts are sharing their views on the number of participation per nation that has come to light. On getting maximum entries from the US, the experts said that it was obvious as it’s a NASA mission. However, the space experts also determined two factors talking about India being ranked among the first three nations to participate in the mission. It is being said that India’s ground-breaking Mangalyaan mission has triggered people’s interest and excitement in Mars flights. Secondly, the idea of the overall strengthening of India-US space relations is also one of the reasons behind such huge participation.
