According to reports, to reduce Delhi’s ever problematic pollution level, the Delhi Government has decided to slash DTC bus fares for the month of January and fix a cost or Rs. 5, Rs. 10 and Rs. 20 for travelling via bus.
Under this scheme, a passenger will just have to pay an fix cost of Rs. 5 for a non-AC bus, Rs 10 for an AC bus and Rs 20 for a daily bus pass, no matter what distance they travel.
The announcement comes just a day after the Delhi government disclosed that they were considering reducing the fares of DTC and cluster buses (orange) by over 50% so as to promote its use.
With this, the government hopes to encourage the use of public transport and discourage people from travelling via personal vehicles.
This, in turn, will help in reducing Delhi’s pollution level, which over the months have been increasing at an alarming rate.
Delhi normally witnesses a spurt in pollution level in winter months and in the past had even introduced the concept of Odd-Even cars to tackle this situation.
