Cabinet on August 3 gave their nod to the much- awaited Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2016 which proposes hefty penalties for violation of traffic norms.

The bill also includes fine up to Rs 10,000 for drunken driving and has included a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for hit-and-run cases.

The bill has also added a provision of compensation up to Rs 10 lakh in case there is a road fatality.
There are also provisions such as Rs 2,000 fine for driving without insurance and Rs 2,000 fine for driving without helmets that have been added to the new bill.
