In over a century, the Indian Cinema – specifically Bollywood – has seen a plethora of actresses, some of whom have gone on to become legends and won our hearts with their timeless beauty and acting skills. However, when it comes to describing the one of most beautiful actress the Indian film industry has ever had, the name of Bollywood’s very own dream girl – Hema Malini – is hailed by all.

Although she is hardly a “girl” any more, at 68-year-old, she is definitely an epitome of elegance and beauty that any beautiful lady would aspire to transform into.

With those huge doe-eyes and a charismatic smile, she has been the perfect personification of beauty, but have you ever wondered why has she always been regarded as the “dream girl”, when there were many contemporary actresses like Rekha and Sharmila Tagore who were as beautiful as her, if not more?

Well, you would be surprised to know that the story about her being the “dream girl” goes back to her Bollywood debut in Raj Kapoor’s ‘Sapno Ka Saudagar’ (1968).

According to MSN/Lehren and her biography, ‘Hema Malini Beyond the Dream Girl’, by Ram Kamal Mukherjee,  the dancing superstar from South India was described as “Raj Kapoor’s dream girl” in the posters of the film as well as during her launch promotions in those days.

And after seeing her effervescent beauty, the audience couldn’t disagree with the tag. In no time, she was transformed from being just Raj Kapoor’s dream girl to Bollywood’s dream girl in no time.

In 1977, a film called “Dream Girl” was produced with Hema Malini and Dharmendra in lead roles. The film saw Hema enacting five different roles. While the film did not go on to become a great hit (it didn’t flop either), it definitely was a tribute to The Dream Girl of Bollywood, Hema Malini.
