Not everyday do we come across people like Bhanwarlal Raghunath Doshi who choose to give up their entire wealth to become a monk. Doshi has given up his Rs 600-crore line-up to embrace the monastic life, reports Buisness Insider.
Bhanwarlal Doshi, the owner of D.R. International, an international trading house dealing in various kinds of plastic raw materials, made the move this Sunday in Ahmedabad in a high-end ceremony where around five lakh people were present.
Doshi became the 108th disciple and turned into a monk under the discipleship of Jain Acharya.
While not many know for sure what prompted the ‘plastic king’ of Delhi to give up the worldly pleasures and lead an ascetic life, it is being said that he was planning to take Jain diksha since 1982.
Adani Group Chairman, Gautam Adani, who had once honored Bhanwarlal Doshi for his contribution in the field, also joined the event. At the high-end ceremony, around 1,500 waiters served food at the event, and over 500 hotel rooms were booked to accommodate the guests.
The Jain Institution received donations worth Rs25 crore. Apart from 1,000 sadhus and sadhvis, the event was attended by 1.5 lakh samayiks.
