A shocking and painful incident of two doctors engaging in a verbal spat that cost a woman her baby’s life has come to light from Umaid hospital of Jodhpur.

While the woman was lying on the operation table for an emergency C-section, two doctors, an obstetrician, and an anesthetist were busy arguing and quarreling. While other hospital staff present in the operation theater tried to calm the doctors down and end the horrible fight between the two medicos, someone secretly captured it on camera.

The footage clearly shows how the two doctors, obstetrician Ashok Nainwal and anesthetist ML Tak, instead of paying attention to the surgery, gave priority to a squabble. The woman had to undergo an emergency C-section because of the low heartbeat of the fetus. Sadly the baby could not survive for long after the delivery.

The Umaid hospital in which the incident took place on Tuesday is one of the biggest and the best hospitals of Jodhpur city. The Rajasthan High Court has sought a report on the matter by Wednesday afternoon.

The argument between the doctors was apparently triggered by Dr. Nainwal questioning whether the patient had eaten before the surgery. Reportedly, the anesthetist, Dr. Tak wanted a junior doctor to conduct the tests but Dr. Nainwal disagreed.

As of now, both doctors have been suspended by hospital authorities. A top medical officer of the hospital said that the baby could not survive because of “severe birth asphyxia”, or breathing problem, and dismissed any lapse.

AL Bhat, the Principal of the Dr. Sampurnanand Medical College under which Umaid hospital functions, has said that disciplinary action will be taken against the two doctors. He also said that this is condemnable and a disrespect of the operation theater.
