Setting a good example for the society which considers unmarried motherhood a taboo, 29-year-old doctor Komal Yadav, adopted twin girls soon after they were abandoned by their mother.
Dr Yadav, who hails from Bulandshahr, is known to be a kind-hearted person right from her childhood.
Though her fellow staff members asked her not to get involved in adopting the girls, she paid no heed to their requests and immediately took them under her care.
Not only her colleagues, she also ignored the instruction of her parents who advised her not to adopt the girls given the view of the society for such a case.
Soon after she completed the formalities of adopting the girls, she took them back to her native village and was given a hero’s welcome by local residents.
Komal used to work in a private hospital in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh, but she has now shifted to another hospital.
According to 2013’s NCRB estimate over 60,000 children are abandoned each year in India.
While the above figures are staggering, what is more worrisome is the fact that 90 per cent of the kids that are abandoned are girls, according to a TOI report.
