Dipa Karmakar who is set to become India’s first gymnast to take part in the Olympics is planning to attempt the most dangerous vault for success.
In 2014, Dipa, who is just 22-years-old, became the third woman in gymnastics history to complete ‘Produnova’ vault successfully.
‘Produnova’ or the ‘handspring double front vault’ is known to be life-threatening and has till date only been attempted by few gymnasts across the world.
Difficulty level of ‘Produnova’ is valued at 7.0 and has been named after retired Russian gymnast Elena Produnova, who was a master of this move.
Karmakar’s skill with Produnova first came to light when she successfully completed the vault at Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
The feat, not only got India a Bronze medal in the CWG 2014 games, but also made the world look up and take notice of the young gymnast.
Now, two years later, Karmakar is training hard to perfect one of the most dangerous moves in the sport, only so as to give India a chance at Olympic medal.
