Following the win of the Indian cricket team at the recently concluded Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka, Dinesh Karthik has become the new blue-eyed boy of Indian cricket fans.
The Indian team pulled off a scintillating win against Bangladesh and Dinesh Karthik played a massive role in it. The star cricketer struck 29 runs off just eight balls. His innings included three sixes and two fours. On his way to victory, the wicket-keeper batsman also created few records for his kitty. He scored runs at the strike rate of 362.50 against Bangladesh, which along with Yuvraj Singh’s 362.50 against England in 2007, is the joint-highest strike rate by an Indian batsman in T20Is (min 25 runs).
Speaking to the press later on Tuesday, Karthik showed his true humble side and said that he is not the best finisher in the Indian cricket team. Explaining his stance on his comparison with MS Dhoni, Karthik commented that Dhoni is the topper of the university while he is still studying at it. He added that both of them have different playing styles and in no way he can be compared to Dhoni.
Karthik made his debut in International cricket in September 2004 with the Champions Trophy. MS Dhoni was not added to the team till three months later. However, post-debut, Dhoni became a confirmed member of the Indian team while Karthik was included only when needed.
Karthik has been appointed as the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders for the new IPL season and said that IPL is a great learning experience to play with the people of international level.
