Her charming personality and grace soon won her many suitors, trying to get her attention. She fell in love with a married Rajender Kumar, but was soon drilled some sense by her mother, to end this controversial alliance. Her mother Naseem Banu, a former actress of the 60’s, knew her daughter well and for her welfare decided to play cupid. Dilip Kumar found his soul mate in Saira Banu and soon proposed her for marriage, which she readily accepted. They got married in 1966, when he was 44 and she just 22. Many people scoffed at the age difference and were speculative if the marriage would last, only to be proven wrong. After the wedding she did selective successful work, and in 1976 gave up working completely to devote her time completely in becoming a wife and homemaker. They have been together for over four decades, invincible and stronger with every passing day.

Their marriage hit a road block when in 1980, Dilip Kumar had an extra marital affair with a Pakistani woman Asma. But, Saira Banu had full confidence in their bond and wooed him back after two years of marriage only. She doesn’t leave his side ever, in all the public appearances she is there.
