Idi Amin, the former dictator of Uganda is remembered as an atrocious leader. He was also known by the names ‘Amin Dada’, ‘Butcher of Africa’ and ‘Conqueror of the British Empire’. He ruled the country for 8 years, from 1971 to 1979 and the entire term was a period of widespread killing, dispossession of multitudes and extreme torture for Uganda.

He did not make use of any weaponry to kill the people. He either got them buried or fed them to starving crocodiles.

Allegedly, the man killed over 1 lakh innocent people in order to come to power. The total number of people that were caused to be killed by him was close to 3,00,000. These mostly included civilians such as shopkeepers, students, farmers etc. who were either shot dead or murdered by others.

Even popular faces were killed brutally and these killings were made a public affair so that people got terrorized. These people included educators, cabinet ministers, diplomats, Supreme Court judges, Catholic and Anglican Churchmen, bankers, tribal leaders, doctors and businessmen.

His rule finally came to an end after an attack by Tanzania and the Amin-opposed army of Uganda. Amin eventually settled in Saudi Arabia with his family and maintained a low profile. Ultimately, the tyrant died of multiple organ failure in 2003.
