Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, recently faced flak for his “Internet existed since Mahabharata era” remark. He even received an advice for Mamata Banerjee to visit a temple and get her ‘brain checked.’
For the third time in a row, he has stoked yet another controversy.
While addressing people in Agartala, Biplab commented on former Miss World, Diana Hayden’s beauty saying that she never deserved to win the title. Questioning the selection process at international beauty pageants, he said:
“I can understand Aishwarya Rai getting it, at least she has traits of an Indian beauty. Goddess Laxmi and Saraswati exemplify beauty. I don’t understand the beauty of Diana Hayden. I am not opposing her, but simply questioning the process.”
As per the minister, beauty pageants are events run by cosmetic giants with an aim to capture developing markets like India.
“For five consecutive years, Miss World and Miss Universe titles were awarded to India. Anybody who participated was crowned, even Diana Hayden got it.”
Replying to the CM’s derogatory remarks, Diana lashed out at him and gave him a perfect reply.
Diana Hayden, who was crowned Miss World in 1997 said that India did not win five titles back to back.
#NewsAlert – I am hurt. I am proud of my brown skin and I am a proud Indian. @BjpBiplab is in a prominent position and he should be careful of what he says: Diana Hayden on Tripura CM Biblab Kumar Deb’s remark about her winning Miss World. #BiplabShocker pic.twitter.com/9pOoQ2IedG

Slamming the racial discrimination that Biplab believes in, Diana said:
“We need to be proud of our skin (colour). God knows, it is appreciated all around the world. Everybody wants to have our skin colour. The last thing we need is our own people not appreciating it.”
She even commented on the CM’s position and said:
“people in position need to think before they speak”
