India will soon have the Diamond Quadrilateral for high-speed trains, which will run at speeds of 300 km, Minister of State for Railway Manoj Sinha has said.
Sinha also said the Rs 2 lakh crore Diamond Quadrilateral project aims to drastically reduce the travelling time between the metros.
The Diamond Quadrilateral will connect the four metros, namely Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. This quadrilateral envisages a network of 5,846km.
Moving ahead with the project, railways have selected companies from China, France and Spain to carry out feasibility study of three routes connecting Delhi with Mumbai and Kolkata and also between Mumbai and Chennai.
Sinha also said that Railways has signed an MoU with the Surface Transport Ministry for construction of Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) across the country.
According to Sinha the proposal means that almost all the railway crossings will have over bridges which will bring down the number of accidents drastically.
