A delegation of Dhulagarh riot victims has approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking justice in the case.
They took this step after they failed to get any justice from Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government.
The delegation said Dhulagarh, a town 25 kilometres west of Kolkata, is tense and a sense of fear is palpable on the ground. They called upon the NHRC to send an independent team from Delhi to assess the situation on the ground.

The riot victims have also asked for an independent investigation through the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or the CBI.
A series of riots in Bengal, all of which were against Hindus, showing the draconian rule of Mamata Banerjee, have gone unreported. Only the Dhulagarh riots were talked about to a certain extent due to relentless social media campaign with pictures and videos of the incident doing the rounds.

While media in Bengal maintained a total silence because of Mamata’s fear, mainstream media also failed to cover it due to their ‘selective outrage policy.’ In fact, TV presenters such as Rajdeep Sardesai, actually claimed that the riots were rumours.

For almost three days starting from December 13, Islamic rioters performed the dance of death in Dhulagarh. While Hindus of the town were busy with Margashirsha Poornima festivities, the Muslims celebrated Milad-un-Nabi.
Reports suggest the riots broke when Hindus urged the other community to lower the volume of loudspeakers. This led to a frenzy of riot and arson. Many residents of the majority community claimed that their houses were set ablaze and many of them were forced to flee. Later, the mob allegedly looted the houses and fled with the money and jewellery.
“Nothing is left. We are looted of all our belongings. They ransacked and vandalised our houses and eventually set them on fire. We could not save a single penny from our houses, only managed to save our children and ran for life,” a local resident claimed.
Ever since Mamata Banerjee came to power, Islamic radicalism in Bengal has grown to such an extent that a shocking fatwa against PM Modi was issued by Imam Barkati in presence of TMC MP Idris Ali. Moreover, a fatwa was also issued against a girls’ football match, Durga idols during Durga Puja were destroyed and TMC government added names of more than a dozen Trinamool Congress leaders in history books in the state.
