It has been a horrible Vijay Hazare Trophy season for the Jammu and Kashmir team as they not only finished last in their group but only managed to win just one match in this tournament.
The team, on March 6, had lost their last match to Jharkhand and were sitting disheartened in the dressing room when India’s former captain MS Dhoni gave them a surprise visit.
Dhoni, who is captain of the Jharkhand team, was specially requested by J&K captain Parvez Rasool to talk to his teammates so as to boost their moral.
Not even giving a second thought to his request, Dhoni immediately went to the J&K dressing room and spent some quality time with them, answering all their cricket-related questions and helping them in whatever way he could.
Few of years back, the J&K cricketers had got a similar visit from Sachin Tendulkar, only the situation was different at that time as he had dropped by their dressing room after the team had upset Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy match.
Honoured by Dhoni’s gesture, Rasool later told media that helping others has always been Mahi’s nature,
“Mahi bhai has always been helpful on cricketing matters. That’s his nature. It was a great opportunity to learn a thing or two from Mahi bhai. He is a great guy. I played alongside him for India. I told him few of our youngsters want to meet him for five minutes and within no time he obliged us.”
Meanwhile, with Dhoni leading the team, Jharkhand has now reached quarter-finals of the tournament.
They are now set to play their next match on March 13, but before that Dhoni would be flying to Bengaluru so as to attend the BCCI Awards and MAK Pataudi Lecture on March 8.
