Lots of buzzes were created around the trailer of Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor’s debut film. Named Dhadak, the film also features Ishaan Khatter. These star kids are launched by Karan Johar under the banner of Dharma Productions. As Mr. Johar puts, this film is “homage” to the Marathi film Sairat released in 2016. Directed by Nagraj Manjule the film etched a permanent place in the hearts of the audience due to its compelling storytelling and unpretentious acting.
Karan Johar, prior to the release of the trailer, stated that adapting such an amazing film like Sairat is a daunting task. This is what he stated during an interview:
‘When you adapt a film like this…it is always so daunting. You know that no matter what you do and try, there will be humongous comparison.’
While Sairat was a film of simplistic charms, the trailer of Dhadak makes it amply clear that it’s directed in a grand style. Here’s the trailer:
With the release of the video, big names of Bollywood came forward to congratulate the duo. Janhvi is the daughter of Sridevi and Bonney Kapoor, while Ishaan Khatter is Sahid Kapoor’s half-brother. Seeing the stars going gaga over the trailer video of the new kids certainly hints towards the matter of nepotism in Bollywood. Here are some of the tweets from the stars:
#JanhviKapoor, today starts a new & a beautiful journey! You are amazing and so is #IshaanKhatter! Both of you are magical in the #DhadakTrailer… Only love for you both! All the very best to the whole team… https://t.co/MdjH2dnsOA @karanjohar @ShashankKhaitan

The audience, however, came up with very different view after seeing the video. They accused Karan Johar of ruining an amazing film like Sairat. Before knowing what the netizens think, here’s the trailer:
The Twitterati are quite disappointed and that’s clear from their comments:
Shree Rajput Karni Sena should protest against the fake marwadi accent used in this film. #Dhadak

Regional cinema is soulful, it captures the dialect & earthen humor so well. A Bollywood remake is almost a parody by ham actors and a khichdi of local dialect and Hindi. #Sairat vs #Dhadak is #Reebok vs #Reebook

Karan Johar is a guy who wants to ensure Hindi filmmaking adheres to the shitty stereotype Westerners have about Bollywood. Absolutely no nuance, loads of superstition, synchronized dancing, with new female leads who can’t act to save their lives. #DhadakTrailer

Literally saw the SAIRAT trailer twice to get over the trailer of DHADAK. Another perfect example of how classics are ruined.
So far as the promo is concerned, the film may not land anywhere close to the original!

When you take story from Sairat, colors from Raanjhanna, set locations inspired from bhansali and still can’t give viewers something to root on.#DhadakTrailer

Not only that, many went back to watch the trailer of the original movie and lamented how the new one is on verge of ruining the essence of the former. What do you think?
