A few days after Austria became the first country in Europe to ban the burka – the Islamic full-body dress for women – Denmark appears to be following the same path. Lawmakers in the country, which has become a major destination for migrants from North Africa and the Middle East, have expressed their support for a ban on the burka.
Denmark is an EU-member country. The European Union has already been slammed for his ham-handed approach to migrant crisis, which has not only allowed the genuine economic refugees to enter unchecked in Europe but also terrorists escaping Syria and Iraq.
Since the migrants come from conservative Islamic countries they not only continue with their customs for women but also view European women disparagingly based on their lifestyle.
According to reports, eve the Venstre Party, a liberal party, has announced its support for the ban. “The forthcoming ban on face covering will receive backing from Venstre,” the liberal party’s spokesman, Jakob Ellemann-Jensen, told the Danish broadcaster DR, adding that it will be “not a religiously defined ban but it will still obviously cover burka and niqab.”
This is what Anders Samuelsen, the Foreign Minister of Denmark, wrote on Facebook:
“There will be a ‘masking ban’ in Denmark. That’s how it will be done.
Everyone agrees that burkas is an expression of extreme oppression. No matter how hard it is, I get sick every time I see that kind of clothing. It reminds me of women who have lost their freedom. It reminds me of all the women in the world who suffer from perverse, unsympathetic and petrified interpretation of old writings. Men are the core of the problem. We must fight them!Advertisement
So if it is practically possible with such a ban is possible without violence on ourselves and our own values, then we will vote in favor.”
Samuelsen’s party, which is a part of the alliance, had previously opposed any such move citing isolation of Muslim votes. Many other leaders who had previously opposed the move, including Higher Education and Science Minister Soren Pind, are now in support.
It should be noted that Denmark has been mulling the ban since August this year.

The ignorant left are defending it here in Denmark as well. Only fools can defend these cotton bars. I wonder if it is too late for the UK!? pic.twitter.com/sTdR4tm6Ty

But it should be noted, as report say, that the ban will impact only 200 women. The reason being that burka is a clothing that also covers the eyes and niqab covers everything but the eyes. A hijab, on the other hand, is a headgear worn by Muslim women in some countries.
Technically, a parliamentary majority has been attained as the Liberals have joined the Conservatives and the right-wing populist Danish People’s Party (DPP) which backs the ban.
Moreover, according to DR, 62 per cent of the Danish population want such a ban.
It should be noted that Austria is the first EU country to ban the burka completely. Other nations where there is some kind of ban on any kind of full-face cover are France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and the German state of Bavaria.
