The AAP had nothing better to do than go after the degrees of the Prime Minister – as if degrees make a man.
Anyway, all is settled now because the Delhi University has itself confirmed that the degrees of PM Narendra Modi are authentic.
It also said that the ‘error’ pointed out by the AAP leaders is a minor one and happens often.
On Monday, when top ranking ministers and leaders from BJP showed the degree of PM Modi, AAP leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the degrees were fake.
Their contention was that the name of the Prime Minister had been mentioned in two different ways in the marks sheet and the degree.
Party leader Ashutosh had pointed out that the year of passing too is different in the two certificates.
On Tuesday evening, the Delhi University registrar Tarun Das told reporters:
“We have checked our records and it has been authenticated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree is authentic. He cleared the examination in 1978 and was awarded the degree in 1979.”
He said that the discrepancies in the name exists in the University records as well and that such errors were common. Names of students are often written wrongly, which is rectified upon request.
Das said that Modi did qualify for degree of Bachelors in Arts. “His enrolment number was CC 594/74 and his examination roll number was 16594,” he added.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had remarked on May 9 that the AAP’s allegations have brought the level of public discourse to its lowest level and that they were simply trying to defame the PM.
