After all the drama surrounding the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magum opus Padmaavat, the film is now running successfully in theatres and has grossed over Rs 110 crores in its first week. While on one hand, viewers have praised Ranveer Singh’s performance as Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji, performances by Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have almost gone unnoticed.

After Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, it was Deepika who has opened up about the controversy surrounding the film. During the popular chat show “Vogue BFFs” the show’s host Neha Dhupia asked Deepika an interesting question about her remuneration in the film.
Neha asked Deepika if she was paid more than Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the film. To this Deepika answered positively and said a resounding ‘yes’.
“Talking about my remuneration for me is not exciting. I am confident and comfortable in what I get paid. But something that I am extremely proud is the fact that they have invested so much money in a film like this and a poster like this, featuring me on it.”
She contended further, “It’s the turning point for Indian Cinema, I haven’t seen this happen before. I think this is the beginning of great things and a lot of amazing and great things to happen to women in films.”
Well, it is a huge deal for a mainstream actress to speak up on something like the wage gap! We guess Deepika has adopted this from Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and other actresses who have been vocal about the wage gap in the entertainment industry.
Let us see if Deepika’s pay hike paves way for other actresses too. Women clearly deserve to be paid equal wages, whatsoever the profession is. Tell us your views through your comments on this story.
