Updated on 27 March, 2019 at 5:14 pm By

Deepika Padukone has come out with the first look of her character Malti in Chhapaak. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Chaapaak is based on the life and experiences of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, who is now a TV show host and a campaigner with Stop Acid Attacks.

From being attacked with acid, to being abandoned by her live-in partner, to staying without work for a year, to struggling to provide for her little daughter, the story of Laxmi is all about struggles.

Deepika Padukone’s FIRST LOOK in Chhapaak has left fans stunned with the uncanny semblance with Laxmi Agarwal

For the movie, Deepika has undergone drastic transformation to resemble the character of Laxmi Agarwal and by the first look it, most of us would agree. It looks like she has pushed the boundaries in terms of the prosthetics to portray the character powerfully.

Born to a middle-class family in Delhi, Laxmi’s life changed one day in 2005. On her way to a book shop near Khan Market, a long-time stalker threw an acid bottle on her for rejecting his advances. As a result of the incident, she went through multiple surgeries, apart from going through immense psychological pressure.

Laxmi had carried out an extensive campaign against the sale of acid in India and offering affordable treatment to survivors. She credits her father for inspiring her to file a Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court a year after the attack alongside another survivor Rupa.
