On the Independence Day, CRPF commandant Pramod Kumar lost his life during a gunbattle between terrorists and security personnel in downtown Srinagar.
The incident occurred on August 15 when terrorists were attempting to infiltrate in the sector when the security forces prevented them from advancing.
The martyred officer, who was one of the finest officers, killed two terrorists before he was shot at in the neck.
According to his colleagues, Pramod usually volunteered for such operations. “He was given DG’s commendation disc in 2015 and commendation certificate in 2014 for highest operational acumen,” CRPF chief K Durga Prasad told TOI.
Pramod was also in-charge of the CRPF’s 49th battalion. He is survived by his wife, a 6-year-old daughter and 63-year-old father, who live in West Bengal.
