Why The CRPF Jawans Remained Calm In The Face Of Insult By Pro-Jihadi Kashmiris

Published on 13 April, 2017 at 7:42 pm By

The CRPF is a part of the security forces tasked with maintaining peace in Kashmir, defend the people from Pak-sponsored terrorists and assist in any rescue & relief operation as and when the need arises.

On April 12, this video went viral on social media. It shows a huge mob of young pro-Jihadi Kashmiri boys slapping, kicking and abusing a group of on-duty CRPF soldiers as they return from a polling booth in the Valley.

The soldiers were praised for showing immense restraint in the face of obvious provocation. At the same time, many said that the condemnable action of the youth of Kashmir is now beyond tolerance.

Questions such as why these young men are not being punished immediately especially since they have made clear their anti-India and pro-Pakistan and pro-terrorist stance are being raised.

It is clear from the video that the young men who were kicking the CRPF jawans have pro-Pakistan leanings. Since Pakistan nurtures, dispatches and backs terrorists who operate in the Valley, it is clear that the youth seen in the video are pro-Jihadis. So any official action against them is justified.

But why? Why did the men of the CRPF not make any attempt to even defend themselves?

One answer is that the men who were insulting the CRPF officials were not terrorists. An action against terrorists is immediate but those men were civilians.

The second reason is probably the fact that the AFSPA isn’t applicable to CRPF. In spite of the criticisms, mostly mounted by pro-Islamist Leftists, the AFSPA actually helps the Indian Army in tackling terrorists in the Valley who obtain support in one way or the other from some local Kashmiris.

The third reason is that the CRPF men were on election duty, not an anti-terror operation.

The fourth reason is that had the CRPF men taken any immediate action, the video would have been presented from the side of the anti-India Kashmiri youth by a section of Indian media and would have, probably, been twisted to make it appear as if the CRPF personnel were at fault.

The fifth reason is that human rights organizations are quick to blame Indian security force personnel even at times when the action is against terrorists and anti-national elements such as Naxals.

The sixth reason is the Indian media, a section of which sides with the stone-pelters of Kashmir in the name of sympathy but ignores the rights of security force personnel. This section had bitterly criticized the use of pellet guns but ignored key security facts such as the reason why they were used.

So will the CRPF continue to be harassed in the same way?

Calls are on to grant more powers to the CRPF. At the same time, the Center is trying to convince the Supreme Court to at least dilute a previous judgement which took away a key power under AFSPA from security force personnel – immunity from FIR.

The CRPF is a police organization (it is India’s largest central armed police force). Its structure and operations are very different from that of the Indian Army and the paramilitary forces. Yet the CRPF is engaged in anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir and is the single biggest force against anti-Naxal operations in the country.

It is time to acknowledge the hopeless reality of Kashmir and its youth. Separatists keep their own children away from all the politics but continue to brainwash impressionable minds into protesting against the security forces. It is these brainwashed young boys who are more likely to take up arms and become terrorists such as Burhan Wani.
