‘Contra’ is the one iconic game of the ’80s and ‘90s, which many kids have spent hours in front of the TV at. It can certainly qualify as those childhood memories which made us feel awesome! Before we succumbed to downloading games on play store, games such as ‘Contra’ were our life, isn’t it? Those long endless hours shooting and killing enemies (soldiers and aliens) was all that entertained us (and MTV). Mario, Islander, Contra, Bomber Man and many more, the list is endless. How about ‘Contra: Return’?
Unfortunately, the game left the planet even before any effective reboot, but now, things are about to change with the new ‘Contra: Return’ which is going to be your nest best friend!
As every ’90s kid will know, ‘Contra’ is a video game based on the run-and-gun concept. It was published by Konami in 1987 and a home version was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1988).
Several ‘Contra’ sequels were created later, but none of them provided an authentic experience as the original.
The new ‘Contra: Return’ has been produced by Garena, a gaming platform, which made the title announcement via Facebook page named Garena Contra: Return PH.
The page suggested that ‘Contra: Return’ users should pre-register for it. The Philippines arm of Garena created this special page on August 27.

On ‘Contra: Return’, the description said that pre-registration for both Android and iOS users should be done within the next few days (so hurry!).
The new title ‘Contra: Return’ was conceptualized when Chinese game giant Tencent partnered with Konami for a smartphones version in the Chinese market, way back in June 2017. It then entered Taiwan in 2018.
Any old features?
‘Contra: Return’ will retain the original’s side-scrolling shoot-em-up nature. The original’s essence will not be changed but it will have a modern touch feel to it.
It will have progression mechanic to unlock new characters as you play; inescapable microtransactions for players to ‘buy’ characters, guns etc; a new multiplayer versus mode (PvP) to play with friends as well and updated 3D graphics for an enhanced experience.
Many players can be put off by the dreaded stamina system which forces the users to wait for a recharge after a few levels or also forcibly recharge with some cash.
Are you excited to pit your skills against another human opponent? Then try ‘Contra: Return’ and experience the magic of the 90s in 2018!
