Congress has demanded that Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari be sacked, as he violated the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) guidelines when he awarded the Zoji La Pass tunnel project in Jammu and Kashmir to a single bidder.

Talking about the violation Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh said:

“I am told that the contract has since been cancelled and this means the government has accepted that a contract was awarded against the rules.”

Earlier, Gadkari had to cancel the project contract as there were doubts that were raised by certain sections on its conduct.

Gadkari, at that time had clarified that the bidding were conducted as per rules, but the project received just a single bid twice.

Even as Congress demands Gadkari’s head, sources claim that CVC till now has found no procedural lapses in awarding of the project.

CVC though is being cautious, and has asked the ministry to investigate the process it had followed and give a report.
