According to the Maharashtra government’s Beach Shack Policy, the 720 km long coastline of Maharashtra will now serve liquor and seafood to the tourists in beach shacks.
The shacks will be open from 7 am to 11:30 pm. These shacks are expected to bring considerable revenue to the tourism sector. They will be operating from September to May.
The government also plans to install CCTV surveillance system and create an enforcement cell for security measures.
This policy states that beach shack applicants must no be involved in any kind of illegal activities including drug trafficking.
The beaches and number of shacks will be announced once the policy is approved by chief minister of Maharastra, Devendra Fadnavis.
The move will be applicable in all seven districts of the Konkan region — Mumbai city, Mumbai suburban, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.
