The 9th edition BRICS Summit opened up today in China’s Xiamen city. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, participating in the summit, spoke about the importance of developing greater cooperation among all BRICS nations, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, for ushering in peace and development in the world.

Tang Yuangai, a Chinese radio journalist, spoke to Indian media in fluent Hindi NDTV

What caught the attention of Indians present at the conference was a Chinese radio journalist’s fluency in speaking Hindi. The reporter, Tang Yuangai works for the Hindi service department of China Radio International and no matter what differences India and China currently have, she was vocal about her love for India and its people!

Ms Yungai, who also loves to call herself as “Sapna” said:

As a Hindi learner, I have travelled to the country and met many Indians. I think Indians are very honest and nice people and that’s why I love India so much.

As a journalist who has been a student of Hindi both at the Beijing University and Delhi University, her love for Bollywood films definitely does not come across as shocking and questionable. Talking about her favorite Bollywood films, she makes a special mention of Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ which has had a dream run in China.

Like an Indian, in a respectful gesture, she ended her interview by folding her hands and saying namaste. She also sang her favorite Hindi song ‘aaja re’ from the film ‘Noorie’ (1979). Here’s a video clipping of Yungai singing the song –
