Have you ever got your eyeballs shaved from a barber? Or have you ever heard people visiting a barber shop to get their eyeball shaved from the barber? Imagine how bizarre it sounds to get eyeballs shaved from the barber. Well, you and I may not and think it to be something weird, but there are such thing happening in the world and people are really going for it.

If you’re kind of who doesn’t actually mind the thought of getting your eyeball shaved by a barber, yes there must be some out there, then China is where you need to go.

In an alley in the Jinjiang District of the city of Chengdu, a 62-year-old barber, name Xiong Gaowu, has an outdoor haircut stall where you can also get your eyeballs washed with a razor-sharp blade.

Xiong Gaowu has been offering this service for over 40 years and has never had a problem. It is said that no one who’s had his blade lightly scraped against their surface of their eyeball by him has ever had any problem.

The procedure takes five minutes and involves pulling the eyelid back to expose the eyeball, which is then cleaned by shaving and scraping its surface with the blade.

An iodine solution is added for sterilization before eye drops are applied to the blade. The upper and lower eyelids are then done separately. It is said that the method allows Xiong Gaowu to clean the inner eyelid and enables people to see clearer.

Xiong Gaowu only serves customers who are above the age of 30. It is reportedly said that that’s because younger people generally don’t have any dirt in their eyes.

While the actual, real benefits, of eyeball scraping are unknown and unproven, it is said to be an ancient craft in China.

It is said that a 97-year-old customer could see things clearer after the treatment. He had claimed that while he had previously felt there were objects stuck in his eyes that caused him to have sore and dry eyes, he felt comfortable after having his eyeballs shaved from the barber.
