Former home secretary G.K. Pillai recently made the sensational claim that the Congress party intervened in the investigation of the Ishrat Jahan case. Talking about the “contradictory” affidavits filled in court with regard to the case, he said word LeT from her affidavit was taken at a political level and it did not come from his office.
In an interview to a leading English daily, Pillai had said that it was P Chidambaram who in his capacity as home minister had dropped any references to Ishrat Jahan’s Lashkar-e-Taiba links.
Pillai was home secretary at the time.
He said Chidambaram recalled the file from the joint secretary a month after the original affidavit was filed in SC.
Chidambaram didn’t respond to calls from TOI on the matter.
