Chennai Metro Rail Service From Airport To Little Mount Inaugurated By Jayalalithaa

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on September 21 inaugurated Chennai metro rail service from Chennai Airport to Little Mount.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the presence of Uban Development Minister, M Venkaiah Naidu and Tamil Nadu’s Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister, Pon Radhakrishnan.


Along with Chennai Metro rail, Jayalalithaa also inaugurated metro rail stations at Chennai Airport, Meenambakkam, Nanganallur Road, Guindy and Little Mount.

All these stations will fall on metro rail stretch between Chennai Airport and Little Mount.

It was double celebrations for Chennai Metro as operations on Corridor I also commenced from September 21 onwards.

Corridor I is on the lower level of the Alandur Metro Station.


The first 10.15km section of elevated metro from Koyambedu to Alandur was inaugurated by the CM back in June 2015.

Passenger operations on the first 1.28 km stretch between Alandur to St Thomas Mount would commence shortly as they are currently waiting to obtain clearance from the Commissioner for metro rail safety.


Once that clearance is obtained, the entire 20 km elevated section of the project, would become operational.
