As Chennai limps back to normalcy after devastating floods, celebrities from all walks of life are coming forward and donating large amounts of money to help out in any way they can.

Few days back Superstar Rajinikanth made a donation of Rs 10 lakh to the Chief Minister Relief Fund so as to help the flood victims.

Other known celebrities who have come forward and contributed to the cause include movie Singam star Suriya (Rs 25 lakh), Allu Arjun (Rs 25 lakh), Mahesh Babu (Rs 10 lakh), and Junior NTR (Rs 10 lakh).

In addition, there are many young actors who have been at the forefront in helping out the flood victims.

Rang de Basanti star Siddharth, despite witnessing looses in Chennai floods, has been working round the clock to help the affected people.

Likewise, actor Dhanush, besides donating Rs 5 lakh, was one of the first actors to provide help to the needy. He undertook the initiative to distribute food and actively shared his contact information through his Twitter handle.

Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar also did a marvelous job without seeking much publicity. He sheltered more than 180 people who were stranded, and distributed hotly prepared meals to nearly 400 people.

Chess legend and grand-master Viswanathan Anand, has reportedly opened the doors of his home in Chennai for the flood victims and residents of neighbouring slums.

Anand’s wife Aruna said:

“Since it was difficult to leave my toddler and elderly father-in-law and at home and venture out to offer relief and assistance, we chose to open our doors to those affected. Following the first floods, we had close to 20 people, including two pregnant women, from the neighbouring slums staying over at our place. My maid, who lost her home and all her belongings, too came over along with her extended family and stayed with us. Food was cooked in large amounts for all those at home as well as handed over to volunteers for distribution.”

Vishy is also expected to make monetary contribution later this month.

Other sporting personalities who have come out to support Chennai flood victims are shuttler Saina Nehwal and squash player Dipika Pallikal, who are both contributing Rs 2 lakh each.

India’s ODI captain MS Dhoni have announced a Rs 75 lakh donation and former Sri Lankan cricketers Muralidharan and Sangakkara have donated Rs 1 crore and Rs 65 lakh, respectively.

Reports suggest that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has donated Rs 1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. The news apparently came to media attention after a press-release was issued by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment informing them about the gesture.

Meanwhile, Baahubali actor Rana Daggubati’s has launched a campaign called ‘Mana Madras Kosam,’ to help the flood victims.

Through this campaign, he along with many other actors like Rana Daggubati, Dhanush, Allari Naresh, Siddharth, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Kalki Koechlin, Boman Irani and Abhishek Bachchan, are urging fans to come forward and contribute materials like food, medicines, blankets and other necessary amenities for the victims.
