CBFC Asks ‘Phillauri’ Makers To Remove Hanuman Chalisa For This Bizzare Reason, And Twitter Had A Good Laugh

After the ‘Udta Punjab’ controversy, the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) is back in news. Anushka Sharma’s latest flick ‘Phillauri’ has a lengthy sequence showing actor Suraj Sharma reciting the Hanuman Chalisa in the bathtub in a ghost’s presence. CBFC has asked the makers of ‘Phillauri’ to remove that scene or mute the Hanuman Chalisa.

According to the CBFC, the scene makes no sense as ghosts are supposed to run away after listening to the Hanuman Chalisa but in the scene, the recital of the Hanuman Chalisa is doing no harm to Anushka, who is playing the character of a friendly ghost in the movie. A source from the CBFC said,

This amounted to hurting of religious sentiments.

According to the source,

The CBFC has asked for the Hanuman Chalisa to be removed from the soundtrack. All the audience will hear now is Suraj Sharma’s long droning chant which would be inaudible.

This insane reason given by CBFC to ban the Hanuman Chalisa made twitterati laugh so bad. Here is a compilation of some of the best Twitter reaction:
