We all have heard of at least few stories in our life where a child has been subjected to sexual assault and that too by the people she knows.
While rape might have become an everyday issue for women, unfortunately, the problem is restricted not just to India but is prevalent all over the world.
While the majority of us just read or see about rape cases on TV or in newspapers, the tragedy is far worse for people and family who face it.
It is even harder for kids and the parents of the kids who have faced this and this is exactly what happened with Linda Trevan, who’s 15-year-old daughter Cassidy Trevan was gang-raped and then driven to suicide.
Sharing her daughter’s suicide note, Linda, who lives in Melbourne Australia, recently shared her ordeal and showed what exactly her child went through after she was raped.
In her suicide note, Cassidy, who committed suicide 22 months after being raped, has not only warned other students but also asked them to fight for their right as it’s “worth fighting” for.

“My name is Cassidy Trevan, and I was raped. I was a student at (school name omitted) and I was raped by some of the students who still attend that school. My aim is to warn other people (students mostly but also parents) about what happened because I’m worried if they could do it to me they could do it to other kids like me, or at least try to. If anyone every tries this on you trust me it’s worth fighting! Fight! If you don’t you’ll regret it for the rest of your life like I do. You can do it. Be careful. Be warned. Be safe.”
Cassidy, who was raped when she was just 13, could never really open up about the matter and the PTSD drove her to suicide.
It was only after her suicide that her mother found the unfinished letter and shared it on Facebook with a powerful message of her own, and how bullying had driven her daughter to her death.
Linda spoke about how “Bullying killed” her child and how she had to watch my daughter suffer for 22 months with her demons.
She wrote about the fact that how Cassidy was worried about the fact that her rapist would find her and get her again as she went through continued bullying from students at her school and her rapist, some of whom even managed to get to her by phone or social media.
Talking about Cassidy’s PTSD, she revealed that her daughter suffered from flash backs of the crime, nightmares, insomnia, separation anxiety, panic attacks and subsequent worsening mental illness.
Linda, to take her daughter’s fight ahead, started a Facebook page — Bullying Killed My Child; Cassidy’s Story — to keep her fight going and regularly posts on this page to make sure that her fight doesn’t stop till the social evil is over.
While Cassidy is no longer with us, her mother through her initiative is making sure that no other child or parent has to go through the ordeal again and making sure that children all over the world know that they are not alone and can always fight for their right.
