You are driving around the town in a brand new car, when suddenly, in a fleeting moment, your pride and joy are crushed to the dust. You get out of the car, and staring you in the face is the wrenching sight of a beautiful machine, blasted with a crater through its shinny body.
For car lovers, the devastating sight can snip them out of sleep, and result in an urge to get it fixed ASAP.
And, so begins the trip to the denter and painter through crowded lanes of Bangalore. In doing so, you may happily give in to the demands they make. Trusting in them when they say:
“The whole damn things needs to be painted”
“It will take at least 5 days”
“Let’s see, we will work out the costs with the insurance company, you need not to worry”
“It will cost XYZ lakhs”
And so on ……
Try not to get fooled by them.
Cases like are rampant in Bangalore, where unlike Delhi, there are not many denters and painters, readily available in every locality.
The problem needed an innovative solution, which has been developed by Team Bumper, an eager startup based out of Bangalore. The company is working on an app based, on demand hyperlocal model. Car owners are connected to service providers, in this case, local repair workshops and garages through an app, and depending upon the type of demand, choose the degree of involvement required.
The app lists authorized service centers in different localities, and offers to pick up and drop of cars before and after servicing.
They have an interesting FaceBook page as well, which often shares customer reviews, with photos. As soon as you open the Bumper website, it opens to a quote:
Fix any scratch @Rs. 1,699 & any dent @Rs. 2,499 only
It is interesting to find out how they chanced upon the idea of starting Bumper.
Wait, what was it…..?
This peppy song, which got the team glued to it and gave them the idea for Bumper. Or at least this is what the Rohdinhoods, a forum for entrepreneurs and startups says.
In two months from that day, they launched Bumper.
And this is how the app works:
Within a few months of taking of, the company raised $500,000 seed funding in a round led by SAIF partners, which caught the fancy of media on this absolutely new idea.
Car repair apps have also made their way in other cities like Pune, Mumbai and Delhi. We have CarOK in Pune, MotoMojo in Mumbai and in Bangalore there is Bumper. Since successful trails have given them positive feedback from users, soon most of them will be expanding into other cities as well.
