Arun Jaitley is coming down hard on tobacco producers. He has raised the excise duty on it by 10-15 per cent in Budget 2016.
And this means you won’t be able to do this with your cigarette.
But Jaitley-ji is a avuncular figure. He has spared one product that uses tobacco – beedi.
Brothers, duty means tax. Excise duty is the tax manufacturers pay on their manufacture. But they are free to add it to the cost of the product which means it is you who ends up paying the tax. As to why the Finance Minister spared the beedi despite health experts raising concerns can be best explained by him alone.
