After the high voltage celebrations of Diwali, the festival of lights and fire-crackers, brothers and sisters all over India celebrate Bhai Dooj or Bhaiyya Dooj, a festival that focuses on the love and affection of a brother and a sister. On this day, women invite their brothers home and apply a ‘teeka’ or ’tilak’ on their foreheads and perform an aarti – considered as a mark of love and protection from evil forces. The brothers are supposed to shower their sisters with innumerable gifts – be it sweet dishes, chocolates, traditional or fancy gift items.
Bhai Dooj is also known by various names in different parts of the country: Bhau Beej, Bhai Teeka or Bhai Phota.
It also said that sibling love is one of the purest relationships and this was quite evident when a picture of a brother and his Divyang sister celebrating the festival went viral on the internet.
The pictures – taken at Hugli-Chuchura (near Kolkata) – were shared by Samrat Basu, the brother, on Facebook.
What is unique about these images is that the sister was confined to a wheelchair. Since she was not able to use her hands, she applied the tilak on her brother’s forehead using her little toe.
In another image, she is seen giving the blessings to her brother from the depths of her heart. Clearly, she was all joy.
Seeing the special bond between them the entire family broke out in tears.
Twitterati, too, came out in full strength to speak out their hearts:
In dono ko dekh kar apni zindgi mein koi kami nahin lagti. kuchh manga to Ishwar se inke lye khushiyan.Advertisement

And then there were comments of appreciation:
And comments asking the brother to take good care of the sister forever, with wishes for the sister’s good health:
*I don’t know how to react to this heartwarming thing.*
